Day One at Other Voices 8

Day OneThe crew are up at the crack of dawn loading the equipment into St James Church on the Main Street in Dingle.

Despite rainy conditions everyone is pumped up for the first day of recording. Dingle, as ever, looks stunning with rolling hills and pretty cottages.

The first stop of the day is Teach Siamsa, a little cottage in Baile na nGall. Normally used as a small theatre and is the perfect location for the first intimate acoustic session for Other Voices.

The talented Florence Welch of Florence and The Machine has taken time out of her busy schedule to make her way down to Dingle to be part of this year’s recordings.

The wind and rain are fierce but everyone battles the elements to make it into the cottage. The open fire is roaring and Florence comes in greeting the audience in a full length black chiffon dress and her fiery red hair. She was accompanied by acoustic guitar and an amazing harpist.

With the crew ready to roll, she treats us to gems such as 'Cosmic Love' and 'Hurricane Drunk' from her debut album Lungs. She also sang a version of Candi Staton's 'You've Got The Love'. The intimate setting is the perfect platform for her powerful voice and the appreciative crowd whoop and clap for her.

Annie Mac was also up bright and early for her first interview of the week. She caught the first flight in from London as she was supporting Fat Boy Slim at the MixMag Christmas party last night in Matter, London's O2 Arena last night. Now that's dedication!

Chatting with Florence the girls looked back on the year so far which sparked some interesting stories from Florence including swinging from the rafters at gigs and trips to A&E.

Florence and her crew then face the wind again to travel to their next gig in Cork City. It was a flying visit but definitely a memorable one!
